Your partner is snoring. Traffic is passing outside. Someone in the house is still watching television. When you’re ready for bed, everyday sounds can suddenly feel much more noticeable.
Earplugs for sleeping can reduce unwanted noise, but choosing a pair involves more than looking for the highest noise-reduction rating. Comfortable fit, correct use and a care routine you can follow all matter.
At EarHub, we offer soft foam and mouldable silicone earplugs for sleep. Here’s how to choose between them.
What Are the Best Earplugs for Sleeping?
The best sleeping earplugs for you are a suitable pair you can fit correctly and wear comfortably in your usual sleeping position.
Before buying, consider three questions:
-
Do you prefer a plug that fits inside the ear canal or moulds over the opening?
-
Would you rather use disposable earplugs or follow a reusable product’s cleaning routine?
-
Does the pair feel comfortable when your head rests on your pillow?
There is no single design that suits everyone. Understanding the differences helps you make a more useful choice.
Foam or Silicone Earplugs for Sleeping?
Both are options for bedtime. The right choice depends on which fitting method feels comfortable and whether you prefer disposable or reusable earplugs. Here’s a closer look at our two options.
Our Soft Foam Earplugs
If you prefer a disposable option, explore our purple soft foam earplugs.
They have a T-shaped design and a listed SNR of 33 dB. With clean hands, compress the foam before fitting and hold it in place while it expands, following the full product instructions.
Check each pair before use and do not use dirty or damaged plugs.

Our Mouldable Silicone Earplugs
Prefer a different fitting approach? Our mouldable silicone earplugs shape over the ear opening rather than being inserted into the canal.
They contain aloe vera, have a listed SNR of 27 dB and are available in packs of 3, 6 or 12 pairs. They can be washed and reused up to three times according to the care instructions.
Our mouldable silicone plugs should cover the ear opening only. Never push them into the ear canal.

What Should Side Sleepers Look For?
If you sleep on your side, assess comfort with your head resting on your usual pillow.
A pair that feels comfortable while you are sitting upright may feel different once you lie down. Follow the fitting instructions, then notice whether the pillow presses against the earplug or makes you want to keep adjusting it.
Do not force an earplug deeper to make it feel less noticeable. Remove it if it causes pain or irritation.
Choose based on your own fit rather than assuming that a particular material will suit every side sleeper.
Does a Higher SNR Mean Better Sleep?
SNR stands for Single Number Rating. It describes noise-reduction performance under standardised test conditions; it does not predict exactly how quiet your bedroom will feel.
The Health and Safety Executive explains that real-world protection can be lower than laboratory predictions, including because of poor fitting.
Use the rating as one comparison point. A higher number cannot guarantee comfort, complete silence or better sleep.
Can Earplugs Help With a Snoring Partner?
Earplugs may make a partner’s snoring less intrusive by reducing the sound reaching your ears. They do not stop the snoring itself, and they will not necessarily block it completely.
Set a realistic goal: reducing disturbance while finding a comfortable routine.
You can also address other avoidable sounds in the room. Our tips for reducing bedroom noise offer more ideas for preparing your sleep space.
Make Earplugs Part of Your Bedtime Routine
Keep things simple:
- Wash and dry your hands before fitting.
- Check that your earplugs are clean and in good condition.
- Follow the instructions for your specific pair.
- Check comfort in your usual sleeping position.
- Follow the replacement or cleaning guidance after use.
Consider any alarms, children or dependents you need to respond to overnight. Do not assume you will hear every important sound through earplugs; make suitable alerting arrangements before relying on them.
Frequently Asked Questions About Sleeping Earplugs
Do sleeping earplugs block all noise?
No. You may still hear voices, snoring or other sounds. Results depend on the product, fit and surrounding noise.
Are silicone earplugs better than foam for sleeping?
Neither is universally better. Our foam and mouldable silicone options offer different fitting methods, so choose according to comfort and the care routine you prefer.
Can I reuse my sleeping earplugs?
That depends on the product. Our purple foam earplugs are disposable. Our mouldable silicone earplugs can be reused up to three times when cared for as instructed.
Will I hear my morning alarm?
Do not assume so. Earplugs reduce sound, and audibility varies. Consider an appropriate alternative alert, such as a vibrating alarm, where needed.
Find Your Fit for Bedtime
You do not need a complicated evening routine to start making your bedroom work better for you. Begin with suitable earplugs, correct fitting and realistic expectations.
